The task of finding temporary emergency shelter for youth can be a challenging one. Faced with extensive waiting lists and payment-approval requirements, parents and legal guardians with children in crisis are at a loss as to what to do. So in an effort to address this need, Providence Home of The Family Emergency Teen Shelter was established in 1997 to help Brunswick County families during this critical time.

We are not a theraputic home, but rather a safe haven that offers a nurturing atmosphere with food, clothing and shelter. We provide 24-hour supervision, care, educational support, counseling services and opportunities for spiritual development to eligible Brunswick County youth for a maximum of ninety days, at no cost to the families. Upon discharge, parents and children are eligible for post-residential counseling as requested.

Thanks to the support we receive from individual donors, local businesses and shoppers at our Sheltered Treasures Thrift stores, we are able to provide high-quality services to Brunswick County parents and children in crisis at no cost to them.

During their time as residents, youth, with their families, examine the issues that led to their being at Providence Home. In addition, youth learn positive coping skills for dealing with troubling situations. This time allows all involved a "cooling-off" period and sufficient time to find long-term resolutions.
